Working toward a sustainable future

Ever since she started out as a civil engineer, Sheryl Molina Himoc has been aware of the importance of building sustainable developments.

In 2015, she was able to merge this passion for sustainability with a promising career. In that year, she was hired as an engineer for Makati Development Corp., the construction arm of Ayala Land Inc.

Sheryl now works as a project officer under Ayala Land’s Strategic Landbank Management Group, where she oversees the land development and general construction activities in one of the company’s newest estates in Metro Manila, ARCA South.

Located in Taguig City, ARCA South seeks to integrate green spaces and refreshing streetscapes through efficient urban planning. The 74-hectare estate is a premier display of sustainable design combined with urban development through the company’s meticulous master planning.“

Ayala Land is not just a company that builds structures or develops land as a business, but it is a gamechanger that constantly strives to better communities and positively support its people,” Sheryl shared.

“Because of this, I have been personally exposed to a more holistic growth as a person.”

Aside from ARCA South, Sheryl is also working on The Junction Place, an 11-hectare pocket urban development in Quezon City. The Junction Place hopes to bring together residential, commercial, recreational components, and green spaces in an area that is bustling with economic activity, same as what has been envisioned for ARCA South.

While she’s an engineer by profession, Sheryl said MDC has also allowed her to explore areas outside her field of expertise.

“Every day is an opportunity to learn. I’m thankful that I’m given the chance to expand my knowledge not only in matters relating to construction development, but in business management as well,” Sheryl remarked.

Knowing that she’s part of an organization that aims to build a better world while taking care of the environment has always inspired her to push through and keep exerting the best in her job. Now with the pandemic, Sheryl has come to cherish the relationships she’s nurtured with the Ayala Land community even more.

“I have always valued teamwork and communication, so I appreciated working on the job even more because everyone works together well and holds himself accountable,” she said.

Being in a good position during the pandemic has also made Sheryl reflect and think of ways to help others in her community in order to pay it forward.

“I was given the opportunity to help the community especially the frontliners by giving each of them bottled water as act of kindness and supporting them during this pandemic since they are the true heroes of the world,” Sheryl said.

Despite the uncertainties caused by the pandemic, Sheryl still chooses to be optimistic and look forward for a better future ahead.

“Always see the brighter side of things. Optimism will always be a good strategy for making a better future,” she advised.
