Circuit Makati Celebrates 10 Amazing Years as a Center for Arts, Culture, and Entertainment

The urban landscape is often a busy environment, one that leaves little space for creative endeavors. This is why Makatizens are happy to have Circuit Makati in the heart of their city as a district for arts, culture and entertainment.

Circuit Makati was built 10 years ago on a historically dynamic site — the former Sta. Ana
Racetrack and its accompanying cabaret scene, along with City Kart racing in more recent years. For this reason, at its planning stage, which began in 2012, it was envisioned to be a center for arts and culture while maintaining the vibrant character of the location.

The former Sta. Ana Race Track, where participants and aficionados alike flocked to enjoy horse racing.

The lifestyle elements located at Circuit Makati reflect this dynamism. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, it has launched a yearlong lineup of many exciting events, starting with a special exhibit of the Cua family’s art collection at the 2nd Floor Lobby of the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

The exhibit, which will run until Feb. 27, is free and open to the public and features works by renowned artists such as Cesar Legaspi, Lydia Velasco, Susan Cua, Rom Villaseran and Daniel dela Cruz. Titled “10 Years of Circuit Makati: An Exhibit featuring the Cua Family Art Collection,” the exhibit celebrates the partnership between the Cua family and Ayala Land Inc. in developing Circuit Makati as the thriving lifestyle and cultural hub it is today.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

One of the biggest attractions of Circuit Makati is that it offers activities that are available for different interests and preferences. Here are some of the places and events that make Circuit Makati a lively entertainment and lifestyle destination in the city.

Entertainment options: For theater buffs and concert-goers, the Samsung Performing Arts Theater is designed to offer the best indoor entertainment experience. It has 10 floors and features a 1,500-seat performance facility that was voted the Favorite Local Theatre Award at the recently concluded 2022 BroadwayWorld Philippines Awards. The world-class theater is slated to host performances by resident companies of the Cultural Center of the Philippines as it undergoes renovation until 2025.

A new home for artists, the state-of-the-art theater can seat 1,500 theater and music fans and offers local and international acts performing all year long.

The Circuit Events Grounds is the preferred place for larger musical gatherings. It was the site of the first Wanderland music festival and the venue for concerts by local and international performers. It will be the site of the grand Bobapalooza Festival on Feb. 25 that features live music and live art from some of the top local artists.

From concerts to raves, the Circuit Event Grounds is the outdoor place to catch rock stars, sing, and dance along to lively performances.

For a different form of entertainment, slamming sports events are coming up via the Filipino Pro Wrestling matches at the Power Mac Center Spotlight.

Sports central: Fitness enthusiasts and those who simply want to enjoy wide-open spaces can take an easy stroll or jog around the expansive property. Those who want to take it a notch higher can head to the Blue Pitch Football Field, which will be holding a Football Clinic for kids this April to May. Skaters can get their
adrenaline rush from maneuvering through the Circuit Makati Skatepark, with its smooth ramps and rails along with a cool mural by skater and artist Raco Ruiz. Indoors, there’s the new Rolyo Sk8house that offers skate classes and roller dance nights.

Animal crossings: Circuit Mall Makati is very pet-friendly, with pet stores that cater to every furparent’s needs. It also has the largest off-leash fenced dog park in Makati that allows Circuit Doggos to have some free-range fun within a spacious area.

Food and fun: The Ayala Malls Circuit has many restaurants to suit different cuisine cravings, from local favorites to international flavors. Upcoming foodie events include the Circuit Summer Market at the Riverside, which will run from March 25 to April 30, and the Craft Beer Festival for this year’s Oktoberfest.

The past 10 years have seen a plethora of shows, events, hobbies and exhibits that catered to different kinds of audiences. Circuit Makati has so far lived up to its vision, and with a yearlong celebration, there is surely more to look forward to.

Keeping its history in mind, Circuit Makati’s main entrance along Circuit Lane is aptly called Hippodromo, an ode to the racetrack that it once was.
