Ayala Malls Wins Gold in ICSC 2015 APAC Shopping Center Awards
Ayala Malls won two gold awards in the 2015 Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards competition of The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). The awards were given on October 20 during RECon Asia in Taipei, Taiwan. This coveted awards competition recognizes the region’s most innovative shopping centers for outstanding achievement in marketing, design and development and retail.
Ayala Center Cebu garnered Gold in the renovations and expansions design and development category. This category recognizes retail properties for their overall design qualities and creativity in development, through renovation or expansion of an existing property or in innovative design of a new retail project. This award honors the addition of Ayala Center Cebu’s new expansion wing, which houses an extensive combination of local Cebuano retailers and international offerings within a modern and graceful façade that personifies the cosmopolitan city.
Ayala Malls’ Idea’Yala won the Gold award in the cause related marketing category. Designed to inspire teamwork among the youth through meaningful action, Ideayala or “Idea Young and Living Awesome” is an innovation challenge that engaged 18-24 year olds to take a bold step toward advancing their new ideas. The program was developed by Ayala Malls in partnership with Paloma Zobel, one of Ayala’s emerging youth leaders. By providing the youth with a fresh platform to speak out in the spotlight, Ideayala attracted some of the brightest young minds. Through workshops, boot camps, and a creative studio environment, Ideayala tapped into the prevailing spirit of the Filipino youth, who embrace originality and forward-thinking.
Representing Ayala Malls in ICSC’s 2015 Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards were Rowena Tomeldan, VP and Head of Operations – Commercial Business Group and Maricris Bernardino Head of Marketing – Commercial Business Group together with Gigi Custodio of Fairview Terraces, Gay Abrasia of TriNoma, Ayala Center Cebu’s Wilma Entera, and Pam Mendez of Centrio Mall.
Ayala Malls’ Idea’Yala and Ayala Center Cebu’s renovations and expansions design entries are automatically eligible to win ICSC’s prestigious VIVA Award. The ICSC VIVA Awards, which recognize the retail real estate industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions, and creative responses to market trends throughout the world, will be presented during ICSC’s annual convention, RECon, May 22, 2016 in Las Vegas.
Likewise, Rowena Tomeldan was also presented with the Trustees Distinguished Service Award during a ceremony at the ICSC RECon in Las Vegas. She was one of the four ICSC members who have made significant contributions to the industry and established themselves as leaders within the organization. For almost three decades the Board of Trustees of the International Council of Shopping Centers has recognized the special contributions of distinguished leaders in the association for a lifetime of service as volunteers. It is symbolically a lifetime achievement award that a volunteer, who is devoted to the cause, often for several decades, can receive from the Board of Trustees.
