Ayala Malls and Globe offer cashless shopping with GCash

Ayala Malls and Globe Telecom present a new service that will further improve the customer experience for mall shoppers. Launched today at Glorietta, this new cashless option, which uses the Globe Gcash App, is a game changer for both consumers and merchants.

Through the scan to pay feature of the Globe GCash App, mall shoppers can now purchase items by simply using their smartphones to scan QR codes displayed by merchants and establishments. On the other hand, business owners also benefit from not having to install expensive machines as they are provided with a QR code sticker which buyers can scan to pay.  Customers pay the exact amount, removing the need for coins or change.

This innovation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Ant Financial Services Corporation, Globe Telecom, Ayala Land, and Mynt. “The partnership is now bearing fruit and we are happy to share the initial successes that will disrupt payment methods in the Philippines.  In this country, only 5% of the population has credit cards, leaving almost everybody to carry cash all the time to pay for something.  Today, we are introducing the 3rd method of payment — GCash.  We found the right partner and the right time to really scale up the business and change the way we use financial services,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

Joining Cu at the event was Alibaba Founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma, Ant Financial Services Corporation CEO  Eric Jing, Ayala Land Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala, and Ayala Land President and CEO Bobby Dy.

Currently, merchants at Glorietta are already offering GCash as a payment option, including its cinemas. GCash will be rolled out to Ayala Malls nationwide soon.

GCash is an internationally-acclaimed mobile wallet service of Mynt which can be used to buy load, pay bills, send money, and pay for goods and services whether online or offline.
