ATG Tower 2 recognized in ULI APAC Awards for Excellence

The new iconic Makati landmark was the only winner from the Philippines

Ayala Triangle Gardens (ATG) Tower 2 was recently recognized as one of 13 outstanding real estate development projects in the 2022 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellences. It was the only winner from the Philippines, with the rest located in Australia, China, Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia and Singapore.

The winning development projects, selected out of the 24 finalists in Asia Pacific this year, was announced virtually during the ULI Asia Pacific Awards of Excellence Virtual Ceremony on June 21. Winners will also be automatically qualified as nominees of the 2022 ULI Global Awards for Excellence.

Sustainable mixed-use development integrating the outdoors

ATG Tower 2 consists of a 40-storey office tower, a 23-storey luxury hotel, and a 4-storey lifestyle mall set against a unique podium design, integrating sloped facades that double as green lawns, grand public staircases, a sunken amphitheater, and landscaped civic spaces.

This project is where the fundamental planning principles of ALI are best showcased – thoughtfully and sustainably masterplanned communities that preserve and enhance the value of existing buildings and its natural landscape, while taking up minimal footprint and deliberately preserving 60% of the Ayala Triangle as open space.

Convenient access was another priority. According to one juror: “The permeability with the surrounding area is quite remarkable – they have a pass-through, weather-protected, 24-hour, passageway between the two major streets and a large berm with multiple levels of pedestrian access to the park that essentially lets the park ride up into the building.”

ATG Tower 2 is supported by a city-wide pedestrian network that provides a safe and easy access to and through a variety of destinations. Tower 2 is the only development within the CBD that directly integrates the Makati CBD’s underground walkway into its footprint.

LEED and WELL Gold Certification

ATG Tower 2 is a testament to green building practices with its LEED Gold Certification. As though anticipating a post-pandemic world, this will also be Ayala Land’s first WELL Gold development that will join an elite group of WELL office buildings across the globe that provide a working environment that enhances both mental and physical wellbeing.

The design focus on nature and wellness has made the building much more welcoming, humane and livable amidst an urban landscape of concrete, steel and glass. Offering maximum daylight and park views creates a stress-free working environment and nurtures connections between people and the outdoors, enhancing performance, personal interaction, and a sense of belonging in the community.

In addition, Tower 2 adheres to the highest standards for air quality through its air-conditioning system filters that clean out air contaminants. Tower Two is indeed a trailblazer in the Philippines for more green and sustainable buildings to come.

Integrating the old and the new

This new iconic mixed-use landmark at the northern node of the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City will serve as headquarters of Ayala Corporation, one of the oldest and most respected conglomerates in the country.

ATG Tower 2 is also the address of choice of other top multinational and local corporations, whose commitment to locate were secured during the height of the pandemic — a demonstration of the trust and confidence in ALI as developer to provide the most favorable work conditions to its end users.

As a final acknowledgement of the site’s historic significance, developers have also retained various heritage components in the form of the former Nielson Field control tower – now reinvented as a two-story restaurant – as well as the old Makati Stock Exchange building, a brutalist 8-storey structure from 1967 designed by famed Filipino architect Leandro Locsin. Architects SOM have also incorporated hammered stone and concrete application at ground level of the newly built development to match the brutalist theme, which was a common design philosophy in Manila during the 1960s.

Established in 2019, the ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence recognises projects that represent the highest level of standards and practices in the real estate community.
