Manila, Philippines – An integrated transport hub will soon rise at the southern edge of the metropolis, as the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has signed the Concession Agreement for the South Integrated Transport System (South ITS) with the winning concessionaire.

“With the South ITS connecting different modes of transportation and services, we can guarantee the public more efficient and seamless transfers. It will also improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in Metro Manila, as it will serve as a transfer point for provincial buses entering the metropolis,” said DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

The 35-year concession agreement to build and operate the terminal was signed with Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) following its submission of the lowest bid at P277.9 million annual grantor payment and fulfillment of all post-award requirements.

Ayala Land is set to commence construction in September 2016 and expected to be completed within 18 months, or by February 2018. Traffic efficiency can be expected once the hub is fully operational by March 2018.

“The South Terminal will cater to provincial buses serving routes to various destinations within Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.  It is estimated that up to 4,000 buses and 160,000 passengers will pass through the ITS South Terminal from SLEX every day,” said ALI Senior Vice President, Mr. Junie Jalandoni.

South ITS is one of the intermodal transport facilities that will serve as the beginning and end-points for provincial buses currently entering Metro Manila, effectively decongesting main thoroughfares, particularly EDSA. Moreover, it will allow convenient in-city public transport transfers, as railway lines, city buses, taxis, and other public utility vehicles servicing inner Metro Manila will be made available.

The terminal, complemented by commercial leasing facilities, will be situated in a 5.6-hectare plot of land in the FTI Compound along SLEX close to the Philippine National Railway (PNR) station in Bicutan.eside ARCA South, ALI’s newest business and lifestyle estate featuring a 74-hectare development with residential communities, retail centers, office buildings, a hotel and a Quaternary hospital.
