Makati Caracol Festival 2009 (Jan 18)

Makati City Caracol Festival 2009 (Makati version of Mardi Gras) will be held at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas on January 18, 2009 (Sunday), from 4:00 to 9:00 PM, to be participated in by selected students of Makati City Schools and delegation from different barangays.

As early as 6:00 PM of January 17, 2009 (Saturday), both directions of Ayala Avenue, from Makati Avenue to VA Rufino (Herrera) Street, and Paseo de Roxas, from Dela Rosa to Sedeño Streets, will be closed to traffic to give way to the construction of stage and bleachers at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas fronting the Ninoy Aquino Monument.

On January 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM, the two (2) outer southbound lanes of Makati Avenue, from Ayala Avenue to Paseo de Roxas will likewise be closed to be utilized as assembly area of the parade participants, aside from the GASI Open Car Park. The two (2) inner lanes will remain open at the time, however, when the parade (street dancing) start from the assembly point towards Ayala/Paseo, full closure of Makati Avenue southbound direction, from Makati Avenue to Ayala Avenue, will be implemented until the tail end of the parade reaches Ayala Avenue. Opposite direction will temporarily be made two-way. The crowd is estimated to more or less 5,000.

Road closure of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas is expected up to 12:00 midnight of January 18, 2009 after the dismantling of the stage and bleachers, and cleaning of the area.

There is an arrangement with the PNP-Makati Traffic Enforcement Unit and MAPSA to allow properly identified vehicles to have an access to TOEP and MSE through a checkpoint at Ayala/Makati Avenues’ intersection. Security Officers will be assigned at Ayala corner Makati Avenue to control and guide vehicles going to TOEP/MSE. Exit to Paseo de Roxas will remain open.

TRAFFIC REROUTING TO BE IMPLEMENTED:

FOR LIGHT VEHICLES

From EDSA: Take Ayala Avenue, turn right to Makati Avenue in going to Salcedo Village, Paseo de Roxas and Gil Puyat Avenue; or Turn left to Makati Avenue in going to Legaspi Village, Greenbelt and Arnaiz Avenue.

From Gil Puyat Avenue to Ayala Center (Greenbelt & Glorietta) and EDSA: From Gil Puyat Avenue, turn right to Ayala Avenue, right to VA Rufino Street, left to Legaspi Street – take Greenbelt Drive or Esperanza Street towards Makati Avenue; or take the stretch of Gil Puyat Avenue, turn right to Makati Avenue and left to Ayala Avenue.

FOR PASSENGER JEEPNEYS

From JP Rizal Avenue/Makati Avenue to Ayala Avenue: Take Makati Avenue, turn right to Dela Rosa St., left to Salcedo St., left to Ayala Avenue towards Ayala Extn.

From Gil Puyat Avenue /Washington to Ayala/EDSA: From Washington Street, straight to Gil Puyat Avenue, turn right to Makati Avenue, left to Ayala Avenue, towards EDSA. RETURN ROUTE: Take Ayala Avenue, left to Makati Avenue, right to Dela Rosa St., right to Salcedo St., left to Ayala Avenue towards Gil Puyat Avenue.

Ayala – Mantrade: From Pasong Tamo Extn., right to Arnaiz Avenue, left to Paseo de Roxas, left to Dela Rosa Street, left to VA Rufino and left to Pasong Tamo towards destination.
